So here it goes.....
This is rather an old movie since it was released in late August 2011 but it was definitely a memorable movie for me.Well,it might not be as romantic as The Titanic or as mystical as Harry Potter movie series but it is definitely a very terrifying movie that will make you jump out of your seats.I watched this movie in 3D so the graphics and effects were much more realistic, not to mention gory. Those die-hard fans of Twilight, you will not find this movie disappointing as there are more drop-dead-gorgeous actors than there are in Twilight. The story is just like the other Final Destinations movies where the Grim Reaper just can't keep away as another group of pretty young things cheat death and then, after a series of freak accidents, realise that they're all doomed to die.You sure don't want to know that you'll be dying soon when you're healthy and all set for life.
The first scene starts with a group of co-workers heading off on a bonding weekend die in a suspension bridge collapse. You'll be half panting and half wondering why everyone is dying in the first 20 minutes of the movie but thanks to the timely premonition from the mawkish Sam, this gives debut director Steven Quale an excuse to kick off the fun and assault the senses with an aggressive opening sequence that plays out like a slapstick routine: a girl is impaled on the mast of a sailing boat; hot tar melts the skin of an unfortunate male; heads are chopped; eyes are popped, and it's all done in a fast and furious, hyperbolic style that doesn't ease up for the rest of the film.
As the surviving "lucky eight" begin to be picked off, they are informed by the mysterious Mr Bludworth that they can avoid their pre-ordained fate if they kill someone else so that Death can still get its due. Peter, who has been driven insane by the death of his girlfriend killed in an excruciatingly tense gymnastics scene, turns on his friends and begins a diverting game of cat-and-mouse.Every situation becomes about waiting for the gruesome to occur.
Like I said, those scenes will give you nightmares (that explains why I was covering my eyes throughout the movie) .You literally pray so that the victims avoid the probabilities that can kill them but when you finally breathe in relieve, that's when they die in the most unexpected way. There's a scene where a female victim will go to the ophthalmologist's to get her laser surgery done. The ophthalmologist will make her lie on the bed and fix the eye positioner right below the laser machine. He will then leave the room assuring her that she'll be alright but little did he know that a short circuit will occur making the power of the laser machine gets increased by itself and finally shots right through her eyes. The even more saddening part is when she can't move as the eye positioner cannot be removed manually.Another scene is when another male victim dies while getting an acupuncture treatment.A fire breaks and eventually he will manage to escape the fire but can't save himself from a Buddha statue falling on his head. You won't really have sympathy for this guy as he stole the treatment voucher belonging to his coworker who died in the bridge collapse and mocked the Buddha statue by knocking it with his fingers. This reminds you not to fool around with the death's belongings or to disrespect God.
The film doesn't shy away from being a tantalising, gratuitous gore-fest, but earns brownie points for returning to its roots with a neat "twist" ending that gives the series some closure. You will remind yourself not to get a laser surgery or to avoid crossing over a bridge but if you're destined to die,you will die for sure.
